If you’re here looking for desktop wallpapers, then you and I both know that there is a lot of desktop background sites on the internet. Some of them are excellent, some are rubbish. Either way, in order to differentiate this site from the ocean of competitors I needed to follow my own unique approach.

Now I am not saying I have fully developed the character of this site yet, but I do believe it is beginning to find it’s place. There are two elements that distinguish the images on this site.

Firstly, quality and selection criteria.

The images posted on this site are selected with certain criteria in mind. These are:

• Appropriateness as a background – you still need to be able to see your icons so consideration to colours, etc, it taken.
• Size and quality – all images are cropped and downsized to fit onto the largest of computer screens (2560×1600). Dual monitor screens are cropped and downsized to fit onto two 1920×1200 screens.
• Subject matter – as a background the image needs to invoke some form of response from the viewer. It should carry you to a place more soothing than work, remind you of an experience or simply have an intriguing subject matter.

Secondly, criticism and discourse.

All the photos uploaded to Beautiful Desktop are accompanied by a small breakdown of what the photo is of, where it was taken and most importantly any emotional or thoughtful commentary that applies to the photo. Hopefully this makes them more than just photos for your computer screen and more a device for stirring memories and thoughts.

Either way I do my best to bring you excellent quality wallpapers but can always use your help to improve. If you have a suggestion, comment or criticism I would certainly love to hear from you and appreciate it if you could leave a comment on one of our image posts.
